2: Steampunk Mr Potato Head

I've been browsing a lot on Instructables recently, and I came across this one. So when Amazon offered me a Mr Potato Head for £1.95, I had to buy it. Of course.

Because I'm following someone else's instructions, I'm just going to post progress pictures.

Fimo bits and bobs, with some weird copper bits I found in the bargain bin at B&Q. I think they might be bits of piping for gas fires. Mr Potato Head also needed reversed, and his shoes have been covered in cardboard.

All spray-painted black. Can you tell what the random bits I used to make him were?

His gun is two glue-gun sticks and a 16-gauge needle case. His hat is a contact lens case, his backpack is a spool (that once contained thread), and there's lots of copper wire about. The paint is brass enamel.

He turned out quite well. He has no conceivable use, but he makes me smile. And that's good enough.

Anyone have a useless but cool project to look at?

1. My First Beading Project

I'm starting small, here. Trying the easiest beading technique in the book, ladder stitch.

Hmm. That's quite neat and even. But it's only about 5mm wide. I like my jewellery to be small and delicate, but that just looks ridiculous.

OK, I'll double it up.

It still needs something.

That's better.

This took me about three hours, but the second leg took much less time than the first. Practice seems to cause rapid improvement here - I just hope it continues.

And I resolve to only take photos in natural light from now on.

My Crafting Extravaganza

I enjoy making things, working with my hands and being able to say "I made this myself." And I haven't been doing enough of that recently. The next month or so is going to change that.

I have a new exciting project. Starting on the 14th of January, I am going to make 27 new things before the 10th of February. I may not be able to manage one a day, due to the demands of work, but I hope to be able to make it up. Some of the projects may be rather small, though. I'm aiming for things I've not made before.

I got a new toy for Christmas.

It’s going to be immensely helpful in this endeavour.

I was also given lots of books, some crafty and some even steampunk! Plus I still have the plans for this clock to make.

I'm not going to list all the things I'm planning, but I will post them as they are completed.
